Community GroundWorks is a nonprofit organization that connects people to nature and local food. Through hands-on education, children and adults learn about gardening, urban farming, healthful eating and to care for natural areas. Organized in Madison, Wisconsin in 2001 as The Friends of Troy Gardens, Community GroundWorks serves diverse communities and schools across the region.
Vision:
People cooperate to create and sustain healthy communities by growing food and caring for nature within their urban environments.
Mission:
Community GroundWorks connects individuals to urban agricultural and natural lands within a diverse learning community. We grow wholesome and organic food for local tables, steward urban natural areas, inspire healthful eating, and offer hands-on learning opportunities. By teaching what we practice, we pass on the skills to build enduring communities.

Programs Available:
Community Groundworks serves the Madison community through a multitude of programs and services. This organization started as a simple community garden and this remains the main focus of this non-profit. Today, however, this organization has a 5 acre certified organic farm that is supported through CSA's or Community Supported Agriculture. Troy's land is also home to the Kids' Garden Program, an orchard area for community members, a program that provides assistance for people with mental and physical handicaps, a natural prairie land restoration area, and a mixed-income housing development. Outside of the Troy land, Community Groundworks manages the Goodman Youth Farm, a garden plot in front of the state capitol, and the Wisconsin School Garden Initiative. All of these programs and services are geared towards providing community members with access to natural foods and areas so they can expand their minds and health.
